Our History
The Lamp and The Rose
Our Services
- In the summer of 2022, a group of West Tennessee nurses recognized an unfulfilled need in our community of nurses. As nurse honor guard chapters were being established across the state and country, there was no such active group in the West Tennessee area that covered the area west of the Tennessee River to Memphis and the Mississippi River. The West Tennessee Nurses Honor Guard was officially established on January 1, 2023.
- We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
- The counties we serve our Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Haywood, Houston, Humphreys, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, Obion, Shelby, Tipton and Weakley ( or the area between the Tennessee and Mississippi Rivers).

Our Services
- Our mission is for service-minded nurses to honor the life of selflessness and sacrifice of fellow nurses by performing the Nightingale Tribute at the time of their death.
- This tribute includes the laying of a white rose, the final call of duty, and reciting of the Nurse’s prayer. If requested, we can stand guard at the viewing.
- We can perform a living tribute for any nurse that is no longer able to work as a way to honor their lifetime commitment of service to others.
- We can attend the Hero's walk for a nurse who has bravely chosen to be an organ donor.

The Lamp and The Rose
- The Lamp is a symbol of knowledge and represents a nurse's lifetime commitment to learning to improve their nursing practice, as well as the nurse's unwavering devotion to those under their care.
- The White Rose is a symbol of honor and appreciation that fellow nurses feel for their fellow nursing colleague.
- We dress in the traditional white uniform with cape and cap as a tribute to our nursing past and all those that came before us. Male nurses are able to join and wear a white uniform as well.
